You’ve probably heard either spark plugs or glow plugs at some point in your life. Knowing the differences that separate the two may be something you haven’t.

The major difference is that π™Žπ™‹π˜Όπ™π™† π™‹π™‡π™π™‚π™Ž are found in petrol engines and π™‚π™‡π™Šπ™’ π™‹π™‡π™π™‚π™Ž are found in diesel engines.

π™Žπ™‹π˜Όπ™π™† π™‹π™‡π™π™‚π™Ž:

Are an essential part of your ignition process, a petrol engine will not start without them. Generally, there will be one per cylinder but in some cases like in a dual ignition system there can be two per cylinder. Their function is to transmit the high-voltage charge from the connected ignition coil. The charge runs through the spark plugs to the electrodes where it jumps the gap as an electrical spark causing combustion.

π™‚π™‡π™Šπ™’ π™‹π™‡π™π™‚π™Ž:

Glow plugs help with the ignition in diesel engines, although they can be started without them. This is mainly in warm climates thanks to the relatively high temperature of the intake air and the relatively low ignition temperature of diesel. Unfortunately, this can’t be guaranteed, especially in lower temp climates resulting in inefficient fuel burning and increased exhaust emissions. A glow plug solves this issue. It is an electrical heating device located in each diesel engine cylinder that ensures reliable start and proper ignition in all weather conditions.

Well, I’m glad you will ask. Faulty SPARK PLUGS or GLOW PLUGS can cause imbalances in the fuel-air mixture, creating excessive carbon build up. But a chicken and egg scenario as carbon fouling can also cause these plugs to be faulty.

So, no matter what comes first the chicken or the egg, it pays to keep carbon build up under control and to find out how contact us below.
