Briefly defined as the delay in output from a vehicle’s engine after applying pressure to the accelerator pedal. Simply put, the irritating 1-2 second acceleration delay (feels so much longer). This is particularly prominent in common rail diesel engines.
The way theย electronic throttle systemย works in modern vehicles means that there is a longer acceleration curve. The longer the curve, the longer the time delays in throttle response.
Throttle lag can be irritating and at times dangerous particularly when attempting to merge with high-speed traffic. This can cause you to be in a compromising position leaving you vulnerable to other vehicles on the road.
Excessive carbon build-up can increase throttle lag by reducing engine power. In addition, the acceleration speed will be diminished, adding to the overall issue of getting the vehicle moving. How much acceleration loss is due toย carbon build-upย depends on the severity of the carbon build-up in your engine. As well as which engine components the carbon build-up has affected.

There are ways to reduce and remove throttle lag. Firstly, if excessive carbon build-up in the engine has caused reduced acceleration then an engine carbon clean service to remove this carbon build-up would be recommended.
Secondly, a Throttle Controller plugs into the accelerator pedal harness. This shortens the acceleration curve, reducing or eliminating the throttle lag, getting you moving sooner, quicker, and out of trouble. With an easy-to-use interface, you can change the settings to suit your driving style or choose automatic mode and let the Throttle Controller do it.
